Surgical missions

In order to offer cleft treatment to patients in regions where we cannot yet support a permanent presence, our volunteers and local doctors regularly embark on surgical missions throughout the region. They travel to hospitals in areas with untreated patients and perform surgeries there, or check on the progress of patients from prior missions. The missions are performed with a full team of the necessary professionals for anaesthesia, surgery etc., and supported by local personnel from the host hospitals. Our German organizers and specialist surgeons Dr Dr Oliver Blume and Gunther Au-Balbach, alongside anaesthesist Dr Emmanuel Munyarugero, surgeon Dr Deus Twesigye and intensive care nurse Caroline Nakyanzi from Mbarara, Uganda, as well as Dr Laurent Siborurema from Rwanda performed multiple missions in Burundi and Tanzania in 2018, and efforts are continuing in 2019.

If you or a family member are in need of cleft treatment, please contact our local representative for your country to see if there is a surgical mission planned near you.
